A BRIEF COMPANY HISTORY
Based in Beloit, Wisconsin, R.H. Batterman & Co. was established by Richard H. Batterman, Sr. on May 1, 1917. The company was originally located in room 229 of the Goodwin building in downtown Beloit, at the intersection of State Street and East Grand Avenue (now the First National Bank Park). From there, the company moved to 638 Pleasant Street just south of what is now the Angel Museum (formerly St. Paul’s Catholic Church). Later, the firm occupied part of the basement in the former Rock County Courthouse building on Bluff Street, while serving as the elected position of Rock County Surveyor. In 1970, the company relocated to 2857 Bartells Drive where it remains today.
After Batterman Sr. passed away in 1964, his son Richard (Dick) H. Batterman Jr. (1919-1990) continued operating the Beloit business. After the firm incorporated on January 1, 1975 as R.H. Batterman & Co., Inc., Batterman Jr. made Thomas H. Nee and Hugh J. Lee (1930-2001) partners. Batterman Jr. later sold his remaining interest in the company in 1985 and retired. In 1987, Tom and Hugh brought in two new partners, William (Bill) D. Kienbaum and Robert (Bob) H. Leuenberger. Hugh later retired in 1992. In 1997, two additional partners joined the firm, Jason R. Houle and Frank E. McKearn. They were followed by Thomas J. (T.J.) Nee in 2000 and Lance H. Wagner in 2004. The principals and owners of the firm as of January 1, 2012 are Frank and Lance. Former principals Bill and Bob remain as employees with the firm. There are currently 15 full-time employees at R.H. Batterman & Co., Inc.
