Plat of Survey

Also referred to as a property survey, lot line survey, or boundary survey.  This is type of survey is used to retrace existing property lines. Once requested by the client, the surveyor will perform research to gather information to aid in retracing an existing described property.  The surveyor will then perform field work on the property to gather data, take measurements,  and find or replace the existing corners.  Once the field work is complete, the surveyor will draft a map of the parcel that will show all property corners either found or replaced, and the length and direction of the lines that connect them.  Occasionally, the client will request that additional markings be added along a particular line, for instance, this is common when a fence will be placed.  Additional features can be added to the map, like buildings or other improvements at the request of the client.  The cost for a Plat of Survey can vary greatly and is dependent on the size of the parcel, the way that the original parcel is described, land cover or topography, weather and the time of year, and any available previous maps or surveys.
